Most people have been in a study group, either in school or in business. A group of people gather to study a particular topic and then report on their findings or recommendations. These groups can help to develop deep understanding of the subject matter for their members. But sometimes, it’s nice to have a discussion in which the topics can be more wide ranging, while still providing useful information to the participants.
We have these discussions all the time at WorkPlace Sonora, just during the course of the day. Once a week though, we have a scheduled Unstudy Group. The name is derived from the Unconference, a type of conference where the agenda is created by the attendees at the beginning of the meeting. Anyone who wants to initiate a discussion on a topic can claim a time and a space.
Unstudy Group topics can range from county government policies to technology to business and interpersonal skills (often in the same meeting). We tend to focus on ideas for business development and community action. Attendance is open to anyone, not only WPS members. This particular group has been running in various forms for several years and WorkPlace Sonora has been glad to provide a space for it to meet.
The Unstudy Group meets every Friday, from 9 – 10:30 am, in the conference room. Everyone with ideas to share is welcome. Newcomers might want to contact us in advance, to let us know you’re coming.
See you at Unstudy!
Very cool! Looking forward to checking this out. 🙂
We look forward to having you join us!
