As you may know, we have been making plans to expand our square footage here on Stockton Street, where we currently occupy about one third of the “L” shaped building. We have had our eye on the corner space (the “Apex” of the L), which will allow us to add an additional private office, a number of permanent desks and an expanded kitchen area. This expansion will allow us to better serve our growing coworking community.
After carving out about 160 sq. ft. for a private office, we will have another 850 sq. ft. left over. Our current plan is for reserved desks around the perimeter of the room, divided by partitions, and a casual seating area in the center. This gives us maximum flexibility to accommodate both individual members and those working in teams. We’ll also have at least one “phone booth” available as a private space to place calls and video chats. A bathroom and food prep area (with a full size refrigerator!) rounds out the space.
How you can help
The driving force behind the expansion is members. We are designing the space in response to demand that we have had for reserved desks for full time members. We need more of these members to keep the new space financially viable. We know that these new members are out there, and you can help us find them. Independent workers at WorkPlace Sonora currently include:
- Remote workers
- Independent contractors
- Satellite office workers
- Small teams
These members are taking full advantage of the benefits of coworking, including the satisfaction that comes from working in a comfortable and professional environment, with friendly and supportive coworkers.
Early mover specials
Our target date for opening the Apex is April 1st and we’ve got a special offer for early signups. Every new member who signs up before the opening will receive $50 off of each month for which they prepay. That means that they can save $300 on a six month membership! Early movers will also have have a say in the design of the Apex, as we move forward with fitting out the space.
And for our friends who refer members, we’d like to thank you with $50 for each full time and $25 for each part time member that you refer. Just tell them to mention your name when they contact us.
Try coworking for free
There are two ways to give coworking a try at WorkPlace Sonora. The first and easiest is to contact us to schedule a tour. You’re welcome to stay and work at one of our communal desks for the rest of the day*.
We also host a Last Friday Open House on the last Friday of each month. Free coworking is available for the entire day*, with a happy hour starting at 4 pm. This is a great way to learn whether coworking is right for you, as well as meeting and mingling with other members while enjoying good food and drink. Everyone is welcome!
Support independent working in Tuolumne County
Our expansion comes after almost two years of helping members of our coworking community work productively in their chosen professions. We look forward to continuing to provide alternative work space and expanding economic opportunities for the residents of our beautiful region.
We thank you for your support.
*The fine print: Tour and open house guests are welcome to come two times during a six month period. Work space is available on a first come, first served basis.
